Krieger kindergarten classes turn apples into tasty lesson

Students in Anmaree Gemmel’s, Rene Abbatiello’s and Jessica Lesh’s classes last week enjoyed a tasty treat with homemade – or, rather, classmade applesauce.
The students practiced following steps in a recipe and discussed measurements, with the teachers helping the students pour ingredients into a slow cooker. They also talked about the components of an apple, and used the fruit for an art project. Then, after more than four hours of cooking, the applesauce was ready to taste.
The applesauces were met with rave reviews, and many of the students noticed the difference between store-bought sauces and one made from scratch. The activity was one of many ways our schools are acknowledging and discussing the changing of the seasons with our youngest students, celebrating autumn.
