Krieger students enjoy supermarket fun, sweets

Students at Krieger Elementary School last month enjoyed an engaging Supermarket Science Assembly, which mixed scientific experimentation with lots of laughter.
Students discovered how everyday items found in the supermarket can be used to explore scientific concepts, sparking curiosity and making real-world connections. From simple ingredients to powerful ideas, science truly came to life right before their eyes.
“It was incredible to see our Pre-K through second grade students so engaged, asking questions, and thinking like young scientists,” Principal Melissa Barrow said. “Experiences like these remind us that meaningful learning doesn’t always come from textbooks. It can be found in the everyday world around us.”
Barrow praised her students, noting they are rapidly working toward their next PBIS assembly.
In February, the students earned an ice cream sundae party – with ice cream donated by Stewart’s Shops and scooped by City of Poughkeepsie police officers – by collecting 4,000 “Paw” tickets. The tickets, the principal said, are given when students demonstrate they are kind, responsible, respectful and safe.
Barrow said next students will earn a popsicle party and 20 extra minutes of recess when they total 5,000 tickets; as of Spring Recess they were 1,800 toward their goal.
